31-Day Author Platform, Challenge Day 21: Appreciating Support = Double Win

[Before we start patting each other’s back, have you followed 10 new people yet?]

Today’s author platform task has two parts. First, you need to post the results of your poll.Automate it with whatever tool you use, but consider going back one by one to personalize each post. Second, this engagement is the interactive part I tend to forget or gloss over. It’s an ideal time to start or continue a conversation! Take advantage of it. Ask people what they think of results, or if they are surprised, or if there was an option you should have included but didn’t, etc. Keep this engagement ball a-rolling.

Yes, this will take some time, so when you’re done, today’s official task will be an easy one.

Day 21 is celebrating your followers.

Let’s get friendly by celebrate your followers. You feel good, they feel good. Win win.

You can:

  • Thank them for following you, and for taking the time to interact, RT, etc
  • Thank them for their ongoing support, and/or for believing in you
  • Ask them for recommendations on who they think you should follow
  • As a TY for being faithful followers, offer some never-before-seen or released insider info, a heads up on what’s coming, a link to a free resource you’re only sharing with friends (make sure you block it so only friends can see, not friends of friends, or public)…something that makes them feel special
  • Tell followers you appreciate their opinion so much you want to ask their advice on something, such as character names or book titles or locations, etc. You don’t have to end up using it but won’t it make them feel good?
  • Celebrate a leader in the industry they might not know, and explain why they are relevant and how their knowledge complements yours

This is different than the #writerslift we did last week bc although it does lift up others in a way, it’s not a personal shout-out per se.

Don’t just take my word for it, LinkedIn agrees sharing and supporting others on social media builds trust, credibility, and even strengthens your brand.

Feel free to send tweets that celebrate the works of some of your followers, clarifying they are followers, – but keep it to one person per tweet unless it’s something they did together. No sense clogging up feeds with group tags.

Some authors are really good at this! It projects such a positive image.

TL;DR: Today, thank your followers for supporting you. Consider creating the post on a Canva-like site to make it pretty. Post it on all your media.

Easy. Ish.
